The Small Wonders of Hummingbirds, Sept. 21
Join us Thurs., Sept. 21, 5:30 p.m. at Birds n’ Beer, a monthly educational happy hour (ages 21+) featuring hot topics in conservation and craft beer from Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. This month features internationally acclaimed author Sheri L. Williamson, author of A Field Guide to Hummingbirds, as she shares 25+ years of experience documenting the natural history of hummingbirds. Guests will also have the opportunity to buy plants for hummingbirds! Jay’s Bird Barn—a great resource for backyard nature products—sponsors this month’s Birds n’ Beer.

In addition to learning from a legendary ornithologist and checking out Jay’s products, Audubon will sell original bird art by the late local artist Wayne Lundgren. His stunning, one-of-a-kind bird paintings will be raffled, with all proceeds benefiting Audubon Arizona. It’s not an event to be missed.

Field trip season is here!
Teachers, remember to book your trips now.

We are offering our Downtown Owl Outreach Program for 4th—6th graders free of charge this fall while we pilot the program. Schools are invited to sign up and have an Audubon Naturalist come to your class with a 40-minute interactive presentation about Burrowing Owls. In the spring semester, this program will be offered for $100 per class.

Interested schools can reach out to Cathy Wise to sign up for the Downtown Owl program or a field trip.

We’re building a greenhouse! Can you help?

We need to hire a licensed contractor to build a small greenhouse that the community (you!) funded. If you or anyone you know may be interested, contact Cathy Wise or call (602) 468-6470, ext. 109.

Interested in Audubon Arizona’s conservation initiatives?

We work hard on initiatives that affect the entire state and beyond. Our pressing issues include Important Bird Areas, Plants for Birds, the Western Rivers Action Network, and Climate Change.

Volunteer of the Month: Amanda McCoy
Amanda McCoy joined our team in 2014. Since then, she has been a familiar face at Birds n’ Beer. With her outgoing and bubbly nature, she is connects with Birds n’ Beer attendees and keeps them engaged and feeling at home with Audubon Arizona. Her passion shines through when talking to others about Audubon Arizona and its initiatives. Last month, she helped Birds n’ Beer attendees take action in protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by signing postcards sent to Arizona legislators. Audubon Arizona would not be the same without Amanda, and we are incredibly thankful for everything she has dedicated to our community!
