Happy Year of the Bird!
In honor of the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, National Geographic, the National Audubon Society, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and BirdLife International has joined forces with more than 100 other organizations and millions of people around the world to celebrate 2018 as the Year of the Bird

As we look forward to the year ahead, we thank those who have supported Audubon Arizona, and offer some recent highlights:
  • After a years-long fight, Audubon secured the protection of the endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher when the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service rejected a petition to remove the bird from the Endangered Species Act.
  • River Pathways, our high school field biology program, will begin to deliver field trips to Black Canyon Heritage Park this spring, enriching the lives of more students and communities.
  • The newly-launched Downtown Owls in-class program reached over 600 students in the fall, and is available to schools this spring.
  • Our after-school River Keepers program reached twice as many children tin fall 2017 than in 2016.
These successes are made possible by you– by speaking out for birds, supporting crucial programs, and contributing to Audubon Arizona. Thank you!

Birdies for Charity
This fall, we presented our Urban Hummingbird Program to an after-school program in two schools. Audubon Arizona offered this program for free to schools that could not provide funding or transportation to the Center, demonstrating our commitment to enrich the lives of underserved children. By participating in Birdies for Charity, you’re ensuring we keep this program free to schools that cannot afford it.
Teachers! Schedule your field trip now.
If you can’t come to us, we can come to you! Choose between Urban Hummingbird and Downtown Owls-focused programs. Interactive, STEM-supporting, and informative—these programs support classroom learning and get kids excited about Arizona’s wildlife.

Volunteer of the Month: Joe Willy
Our popular leader of Saturday morning bird walks, Joe Willy, is a staple at Audubon Arizona. Each week Joe gives our community a chance to connect with the birds of Rio Salado. He has an enthusiastic following of birders of all skill levels and enjoys taking time to teach and explore. Joe is patient and engaging with our visitors, which inspires others to appreciate nature. We are thankful for his lasting impact at Audubon Arizona!
