PRAC: Your Summertime Destination!
While everyone is excited now that school’s out for summer, it won’t be long before parents start hearing those dreaded words, “I’m bored” or a fight ensues over screen time.

As you begin making plans for the summer, keep in mind that the Pascagoula River Audubon Center will be offering summer camps for children ages 4 to 14, but parents and caregivers are welcome to bring children to visit for self-guided exploration. Spend time birding, kayaking, understanding native plants, or even volunteering.  Bring along a picnic lunch and make a day of it!  There is something for everyone at PRAC.

Due to collaboration with the National Geographic Society for inquiry camps and the camps offered by PRAC, summer hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday operational hours at this time are June 12 and July 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday hours are subject to change based on staff availability and venue rentals.

If you have a need when we are not open, please contact the Center so that we can make arrangements for you.

I do!
Venue Rentals at PRAC are on the Rise
Three grooms and three brides have said “I do” this year making the Pascagoula River Audubon Center their first destination as a married couple.  PRAC has become a very popular destination for weddings, receptions, retirement parties, birthday parties, showers, graduation celebrations and retreats.

Along with the gorgeous scenery offered as an advantage of using PRAC as an event venue, it is also a cost-effective option with many amenities.  Round and rectangular tables, chairs, bistro tables, catering kitchen and an ice maker are just some of the things that come with your rental.

The calendar for the summer is filling quickly, and we have three weddings already booked in the next 12 months.  Stop by to talk with a member of the staff about your special event needs or click here for more information.

Art to Help Raise Awareness on Local Beaches
Audubon Mississippi is excited to unveil the Coastal Bird Storyboard Trail. Created through partnership with local artist team, The Painter and Poet, artist Tami Curtis and writer Perry Guy, this visually-appealing storyboard trail stretches 26 miles along Beach Boulevard in Harrison County.

This trail comprises of six educational signs featuring one of the six key species that nest on Mississippi beaches or migrate through the area. This project, which was made possible through GOMESA grant, will be a big boost to Audubon’s ongoing efforts to educate locals and visitors in protecting beach-nesting birds as well help support the states $8-billion-dollar-a-year nature tourism economy.

Meet the Newest Members of the Flock
We would like to extend a huge PRAC welcome to our 2021 summer interns Morgan Sheffield and JaKayle Bridges who will spend the summer assisting with educational and conservation programming.

JaKayle Bridges is a sophomore at The University of Southern Mississippi where she is majoring in Nursing. A Moss Point native, she said she looks forward to helping campers learn more about wildlife around them and to gain lifelong skills that will help her in the future.

Morgan Sheffield, a rising senior at Resurrection Catholic High School, is also a native of Moss Point.  She hopes to work collaboratively with the staff and volunteers who contribute time to Audubon.  She is hoping to further develop her leadership skills as she learns and teachers about the amazing coastal ecosystem.

Please stop by to welcome these two young ladies as part of our flock!
