Join Our Flock!
The Pascagoula River Audubon exists because of its loyal supporters, but there is always room to add more supporters to our flock.  That is why we are inviting supporters to bring friends to a cocktail party.

November 4 is the Birds of a Feather fundraiser cocktail party which is designed to help supporters understand how funds are utilized daily at PRAC and to engage new friends.  The fundraiser is sponsored by the Bacot-McCarty Foundation and supported by many local business owners.

As part of the event, the upper deck of the boat house is being dedicated as the Melton Harris, Jr. Memorial Sky Deck. Without his support and dedication to PRAC, the Center would not have been in this location for the past six years.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails.  The dedication will take place at 5:30 followed by appetizers and information.  The appetizers are being donated by Brady’s Steaks and Seafood, Burnham’s Pharmacies, Murky Waters, Scranton’s, Tay’s BBQ, The Lumberyard and Crazy B’s.

Please RSVP to prac@audubon.org.

The Art of Metal Gallery Opening November 11
The Moss Point Fine Art Gallery welcomes Cym Doggett with her unique art that is engraved into metal. Come meet the artist at the opening reception from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, November 11.

Doggett is a self-taught artist focusing her work on engraving simple lines and dots into metal to capture the complexity of small glimpses of nature. She said much of her work is a close, magnified examination of a subject exploring the unique structure responsible for its place and survival in its habitat. She said this fascination with the wild is attributed to growing up in a small town and spending much of her time in the woods with only her imagination to expand the boundaries of that young world. Her love of art has grown naturally from this wonderment at the life around her.

Rather than a brush and paint to create her works, she uses various rotary tools, engravers and grinders to transform hard, cold metal into representations of the depth and texture found in her subjects. She focuses primarily on the negative space of the piece as she plans the incisions needed to capture her vision. She strives to accomplish a loose composition while controlling the flow of the lines. The ultimate goal of her work is to convey in each piece a visceral glimpse into the complex, beautiful and unique inhabitants of our common world.

Cym currently lives in Huntsville, Alabama where she works out of her home studio. Her work may be found in The Copper Fox Gallery in Franklin, Tennessee, My Happy Place Gallery in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Connie Ulrich Studio in Huntsville.

PRAC to Close for Facelift
Thanks to funding offered through the National Audubon Society, PRAC is getting a much-needed facelift on the exterior of the building.

After six years of sun, rain, and wind, parts of the decks and exterior wood siding are in need of repairs.  Through this funding, the entire building will be cleaned, repairs will be made, and the wood will be sealed to help preserve it for many years to come.

Work on the facelift will take place from November 12 to November 24.  We will be closed during this time.  Anyone needing assistance while we are closed should send an email to prac@audubon.org.
