Western Water Wins in 2019
From contributions in policy agreements to thought leadership and science—which protect birds and the places they need—Audubon’s Western Water team accomplished a great deal in 2019. Strong collaboration and science-based conservation drives Audubon’s work on solutions for water management and water policies that align habitat protection and restoration with improved water supplies for communities along the Colorado River and Delta, across western saline lakes, in California’s Central Valley, and along the Rio Grande.

Arizona had its fair share of accomplishments in the realm of water last year.Take a look back at our 2019 highlights and wins.

Birds n' Beer Spring 2020 Season
Birds n’ Beer is back, and ready for 2020 with a season of birds, beer, water, and fish! Join us for the first one of the new year on Thursday, January 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix. This month’s event, “A Bright Future for Birds,” focuses on Audubon’s new Survival by Degrees report on climate, and how going solar can brighten the outlook for birds. Phoenix residents will also have a chance to learn about joining a solar co-op through Solar United Neighbors.

Birds n’ Beer occurs the third Thursday of the month from January through May. Check out our program page to see the topic and presenter for each month.

2019 at the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch
The Research Ranch in Elgin celebrated a year of research, fieldwork, and conservation, thanks to support from students, volunteers, donors, and visitors. Ornate tree lizards and Spadefoot toads were the focus of our Apacheria Fellows, while conservation efforts involved Chiricahua leopard frogs and native grass seedballs. Read about the successes of the past year at the Ranch here.

The Apacheria Fellowship provides support for studies compatible with Frank and Arial Appleton’s founding mission of the Research Ranch: leave the land better than you found it. Fellows receive a $1,000 award as well as five weeks of lodging at the Ranch to support their research. Applications are open for enrolled students–learn more here.
