Did you know that President Theodore Roosevelt kept a bird checklist? Roosevelt had a great love for nature and the outdoors. As president, he kept a journal of birds on the White House grounds. His list reached 93 species he saw or heard at his Pennsylvania Avenue address. Roosevelt also included bird-watching trips within the course of his official duties.

Come on an adventure of reading and the outdoors! Introduce your toddler to nature with storytime in our upstairs classroom, then explore the trails in Seward Park that are right outside our doors! Walks are easy and less than one mile in length.

The Streaked Horned Lark makes its ground nest in the grasslands of Washington and Oregon. This beautiful songbird is listed as an endangered species by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Join us as we welcome a team of University of Washington students who are taking up the challenge to advocate on behalf of this curious bird.

2019 Audubon Photography Awards Reception

Join us for a festive gallery reception. Visit the Audubon Photography Awards exhibit and walk among the winning bird photographs from this year’s contest and learn more about your local birdlife and Seward Park Audubon Center’s conservation, education, and policy work.

The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and warm chocolate chip cookies will be served. The exhibit runs through Sunday, March 22.

Bird Focus | Early Spring Nesting

Each month our Lead Naturalist Ed Dominguez showcases the intricacies of a specific group of birds. Raptors one month, woodpeckers the next! Through Bird Focus, you can grow your bird knowledge a bit more each month. The park provides the birds, we provide the binoculars! Spring is quickly approaching and Seward Park will begin to find a number of early nesting birds begin this next phase of a bird's yearly tasks.

Science, Nature & A Biscuit | Seattle's Tree Canopy

An urban tree canopy is made up of the leaves, branches, and stems of our trees that obscure the view of the ground from above. This system of trees reduces air pollution, lowers the City’s temperature, and provides beauty and wildlife habitat in our neighborhoods. Learn the current state of Seattle’s tree canopy and the goals for canopy coverage. You’ll also find out how your voice can make a difference in the growth and protection of this critical resource.
