Giving Thanks
For what are you thankful?

As Katie and I were discussing this question, we started spouting off so many things that it was easy to find the silver lining on a year that has been plagued with uncertainty.

We are thankful for the wonderful volunteers who are with us each week watering plants, cleaning tanks, answering phones and helping with events.  With our staff cut in half, we could not survive without the help of those people.  And we always have room for more volunteers!

Even with many people losing jobs or not working as much as before, we have continued to be blessed with faithful donors. The Bacot-McCarty Foundation continues to be one of our best partners in providing us opportunities to share our story through The Jolly, and Chemours has given us new ways to share the story of using native plants in the landscape.  Whether we are open three or five days a week, or whether or not we have school groups on site, we have the same expenses, so every donation helps us provide new opportunities for you.

We are also thankful to our artists for allowing us to display their works in the Moss Point Fine Art Gallery and to those who support our artists.  We have had two fabulous native plant sales this year, and the benefit there goes to the birds, bees and butterflies.

Lastly, we are thankful to be in a community that values the natural environment and supports conservation efforts.

So in this year filled with uncertainty, you can be CERTAIN that the Pascagoula River Audubon Center has anchored itself in Moss Point with no plans to abandon ship.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Audubon for the Holidays
The marathon from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day can be exhausting, so spend time in the peaceful surroundings of the Pascagoula River Audubon Center this holiday season.

Join the staff and volunteers for Shop Small Saturday, November 28, from 8 to 11 a.m.  The early bird gets the worm, or at least the best of some holiday spirits and snacks.  All items in the Hidden Heron Gift Shop will be discounted at least 10% with the exception of consignment items.  Artist Sandra Eisler will be available to sign prints, and all gifts are eligible for free giftwrapping. Throughout the event, guests can register to win one of two 2020 PRAC Christmas Ornaments and other items.

Still checking your list once, maybe twice, and need to find unique gifts? Visit PRAC Saturday, December 5, for Holiday Marketplace.  Several retail, craft and food vendors will be spread across the site featuring one-of-a-kind items. Enjoy the sounds of music performed by “Great Speckled Birds”, and find time to have a photo made with Santa. Gates open at 10 a.m., music begins at 11, and photos with Santa are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Splatter Paint Studios will also have wooden holiday items to paint.  Small and large items are available for $5 to $20, and children can make bird-seed ornaments to hang at home.  Admission is FREE, but donations are encouraged.

Social distancing measures are in place.  Visitors to PRAC must maintain 6-foot distance between groups and must wear masks when inside the building.  Masks around the 10-acre site are encouraged. Only a limited number of people will be allowed inside the interpretative center at one time.

Shop Online for Curbside Pickup
Shop from the convenience and safety of your home by visiting HERE to view items available in the Hidden Heron Gift Shop. PRAC recently received a new shipment of logo t-shirts in vibrant new colors, and the shatterproof wine glasses have been a big hit as well.  A large variety of stocking stuffer items for both children and adults are available and new consignment items have been added as well.

The first shipment of 2020 Commemorative PRAC Blown-Glass ornaments sold out quickly, so an additional 20 ornaments have been ordered.  Ornaments may be purchased at the above link for the gift shop.  White and blue and aqua and blue ornaments are available for $40 each.
Gift Giving For The Birds
A donation to the Pascagoula River Audubon Center is the perfect size, shape and color gift for the person who needs nothing but has a love for the environment.  Donations made to PRAC for gifts will be acknowledged to the recipient.
