On behalf of all the members of the local Pascagoula River Audubon Center Advisory Committee, I’d like to thank you for your continued support. The holidays are a good time to reflect on the past year, while more importantly, eyeing what’s next. I think it’s safe to say that in this unprecedented year, everyone is ready for what’s next. Like everyone else in the world, PRAC has faced unparalleled hardships this year. We’ve had to reduce staff at the site, shutter numerous events, and hit pause on all the great things planned for the Center in 2020. But everyone knows that story, and we aren’t the only ones telling it. I want to talk about What’s Next at PRAC and how you can help support us.
This holiday season there are great ways to come and safely enjoy the beauty of the Center. Saturday, December 5 is the Holiday Marketplace where several retail, craft, and food vendors will set up at the site. There will be great music performed by Great Speckled Birds, pictures with Santa, and painting and craft activities for children. We will also be providing curbside pickup for any of our online purchases. Of course, social distancing measures are in place, and mask usage around the 10-acre site is strongly encouraged.
As we begin planning for 2021, we are focused on providing environmental educational opportunities for the community and continue to update activities and exhibits for return visits. We already have the Moss Point Fine Art Gallery booked through October, and we hope to have a springtime festival.
The Center is under the umbrella of the National Audubon Society, but we are a stand-alone facility, responsible for raising our own finances in order to keep our programs going and our doors open for you. All expenses are paid through local contributions and revenue generated through admissions, tuition, sales and rental of the facility. We understand it’s been a tough year, but we are encouraging previous and current donors to contribute to the future of PRAC. If you are unable to give this year, that’s okay! Please share your experiences of PRAC with others in person (distanced of course) and on social media. Help us grow our flock and realize the vision we have for the Pascagoula River Audubon Center.
