Take Action to Protect Indiana’s Wetlands
Take Action

Dear Friend,

Indiana’s wetlands, and the birds that rely on them, are in serious trouble.

A bill passed this week by the Indiana Senate removes protections for more than 40,000 acres of wetland habitat in Important Bird Areas, critical sites for bird species like the Pied-billed Grebe, Least Bittern and Swamp Sparrow. We know that regional populations of some of these species have decreased by as much as 80 percent in just a few short decades.

Take action now to protect Indiana’s wetlands and the birds that depend on them.

Indiana has already lost more than 85 percent of its historic wetlands. Birds cannot afford to lose any more wetlands, and neither can people.

Even the smallest wetlands in Indiana help provide critical wildlife habitat, keep the water in inland lakes and streams clean, and protect local communities from flooding and drought.

This destructive bill is heading to the Indiana House of Representatives. Help us protect Indiana’s remaining wetlands. Take action now and tell your state representatives to oppose Senate Bill 389.

Sincerely,
Marnie Urso
