Dear {{FirstName or ‘Friend’}},

Assembly Bill 30, which would establish access to nature as a basic human right in California, will have its first hearing in the State Assembly next Monday, April 26th.

As we celebrate Earth Day this week, join Audubon and urge the California Assembly to VOTE YES on the California Human Right to Nature Act (AB30) today.

Nature has served as a refuge and a source of health for millions of Californians during the pandemic. However, communities of color are three times more likely than white communities to live in nature-deprived areas. We can change that, starting now.

The California Human Right to Nature Act ensures that all Californians have a right to safe and convenient access to nature.

The bill, introduced by California Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) and co-sponsored by Audubon California, AZUL, and Latino Outdoors builds upon our state's commitment to protecting 30 percent of the states’s lands and waters by 2030. But we need to do more to create green space for people and birds in nature-deprived areas.

Email your Assemblymember to tell them to Vote YES on AB30.

Studies show the profound benefits of time spent outdoors in natural settings and children experience improved health and cognitive functions, strong motor coordination, reduced stress, and enhanced social skills. However, research also shows that 70 percent of low-income communities of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people live in nature-deprived areas.1

The California Human Right to Nature Act would create safe and convenient outdoor recreation opportunities for all Californians.

Urge your Assemblymember to Vote YES on the California Human Right to Nature Act.
Sincerely,
Juan Altamirano
