Dear Audubon Advocate,
The U.S. Senate is considering a bill that could lead to the largest sale of public lands in American history—mandating the sale of up to 3 million acres (and potentially opening the door for more). That means landscapes and vital bird habitat from Alaska’s Arctic to the sagebrush steppe of the American West, and other places beloved by generations of Americans could soon be sold with limited public input. These lands belong to all of us—and once they’re gone, we don’t get them back.
Please take action today to urge your senator to keep public lands in public hands.America's public lands are perhaps the most important key to preserving the habitat birds need to thrive. Our public lands protect habitat for iconic bird species such as Greater Sage-Grouse and Trumpeter Swans, support rural economies through recreation, and preserve cultural heritage.
Public lands belong to the American people. Once they're sold, they're gone for good—fences go up, houses are built, access disappears, and these places are forever lost to current and future generations.
More than 80 percent of Western voters oppose selling off public lands.
Please join us in urging your senator to ensure these magical places are preserved for us, our children, and our grandchildren to enjoy.
