Don't Miss Corkscrew After Hours This Friday
Join us for our special February ‘Corkscrew After Hours’ event this Friday, February 7, from 5:30 – 9 p.m.

Guests can enjoy live music and exhibits in the Blair Audubon Visitor Center and shop for unique and beautiful gifts in the Nature Store. In the Gallery Cafe, light bites and beverages will be available for guests as they experience amazing artwork by Andy Owen. Everyone can explore the boardwalk under the stars and listen to the many sounds at night (our boardwalk naturalists will be out there to help). And, don’t miss the educational program: this month’s theme is Living with Panthers.

Meet Our Partner... the Community Foundation of Collier County
We are excited to announce that Corkscrew Sanctuary was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Collier County! These funds will support the Insect Adventures and Wild Florida Adventure Program for 2nd and 5th-grade students at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Learning at Corkscrew Sanctuary allows students to utilize their innate curiosity for exploring, process information in new, fun, and novel ways, and connect their lessons to real-world context.

Cypress Celebration
Our 2020 Cypress Celebration, hosted at Tiburon Golf Club on January 14, thanked 70 of our supporters. Now in its third year, the event enabled guests to mingle and enjoy an elegant luncheon while award-winning photographer Mac Stone shared images and stories from the swamp.
Prescribed Fire Awareness Week
Last week was National Prescribed Fire Awareness Week. Did you know that prescribed fire is an important tool in habitat management? Each year at Corkscrew, the land management team aims to burn 1,500 acres within the Sanctuary. So far in 2020, they have already applied fire to approximately 225 acres of fire-dependent habitat.

IN THE NEWS
Corkscrew has been featured in a number of news stories recently.

The sighting of a Hammond’s Flycatcher on Corkscrew’s boardwalk garnered attention among birders and the local media.

Our own Swamp Treasure, Sanctuary Director Lisa Korte, was the subject of a comprehensive feature article in Florida Weekly.

The Alexandria, MN Echo Press editorial board extolled the virtues of Corkscrew and shared their observations that birds seem to be in shorter supply across the country.
Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary comprises 13,000 acres of sensitive land owned and protected by the National Audubon Society since 1954. Its renowned 2.25-mile boardwalk winds through the world's largest remaining bald cypress forest. Up until the early 1900's few people outside of southern Florida had ever heard of Corkscrew. Learn more about the history of Corkscrew.
The mission of Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is to protect the natural resources of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, its surrounding watershed, and the Western Everglades, and to influence Everglades restoration, for the benefit of birds, other wildlife and people through land management, science, education, restoration, and public policy advocacy.
