Win for the Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo
After threats to be delisted, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) recently decided to retain federal protections for the Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo under the Endangered Species Act.

Audubon opposed the effort to remove the western distinct population segment of the Yellow-billed Cuckoo from the protections it currently has under the Endangered Species Act and nearly 25,000 of our members echoed that concern—we submitted their comments to the USFWS. While the species is still at risk from increasing environmental stressors, with less than 2,000 breeding pairs remaining, Audubon applauds USFWS’s decision not to delist the bird.

There is still work to do, and concerns to address, to further protect the cuckoo. Read on to learn more about the recent success and the continuing threats.

[Webinar] Oasis or Mirage: The Salton Sea
Thursday, October 15 | 5:30–6:30 pm
There is an oasis in the desert, less than 60 miles west of the Arizona border. Or is it a mirage, at risk of disappearing?

California's Salton Sea is one of the most important places for birds in North America, but it’s in danger—both of losing its ecological value and of threatening the health of more than a million people.

Join us on October 15 to get an on-the-ground look of the Salton Sea, its birds and communities, why it's under threat, and what we're doing to save it. Register for the webinar today.
