Sage-Grouse Strongholds Opened to Energy
On December 6, the Bureau of Land Management released plans to roll back sage-grouse habitat protections in Wyoming, Colorado, and five other states, lifting restrictions on more than 80 percent of the bird's most vital habitat. Learn about the details in this new Audubon article.

It’s not too late to help. The US Forest Service is still accepting public comments on their sage-grouse land management plans.

Two fantastic speakers—Scott Hoffman-Black of Xerces Society and Ross Shrigley of Plant Select—will headline the first Habitat Hero workshop of 2019! Learn about the latest science on pollinators and the importance of native plants. After the presentations will be a hands-on workshop on winter sowing of native seeds.

Bird Class and Christmas Bird Count
Pagosa Springs, CO | Dec 12 & 15
Tomorrow, Community Naturalist Keith will host a class on raptor, woodpecker, and corvid identification. The class will be held from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Pagosa Springs. On December 15, help us survey birds for the Pagosa Springs Christmas Bird Count and enjoy a chili tally party at 4 p.m. at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Administration Building!

It’s time to brave the winter weather in the name of community science! The Christmas Bird Count is an opportunity for all birdwatchers to survey birds in support of their conservation. Since the it began more than a century ago, it has relied on the dedication and commitment of volunteers like you.
