Together, we have the opportunity to influence Indiana lawmakers and demonstrate first-hand the value that wetlands—and the birds who depend on them—bring to the state.

Indiana’s wetlands are at-risk. The U.S. Supreme Court recently issued a decision in Sackett v. EPA that could place as many as 300,000 acres of wetlands in Indiana at risk of destruction without state protection. These wetlands play an important role in filtering water and keeping Indiana communities safe from flooding.
Wetlands provide some of the best habitat for vulnerable marsh birds, such as Virginia Rail and Least Bittern, and help reduce harmful emissions by naturally storing carbon. Protecting wetlands can help protect the two-thirds of North American bird species that are at risk of extinction due to climate change.
Last year, Audubon members traveled from all across Indiana to join us at the statehouse to meet with more than 40 legislators.
We hope you’ll join us this year as we urge our lawmakers to take action. At Advocacy Day, you’ll meet with elected officials and their staff alongside policy experts, to share why you think it is important to protect birds. No previous advocacy experience is necessary!
