Blair Visitor Center Updates
Gleaming like a ruby in an emerald sea, the scarlet rosemallow, Hibiscus coccineus, is a spectacular native species currently in bloom. Scarlet rosemallow is unmistakable because of its nearly eight-inch diameter flowers, each with five scarlet petals. This mallow is a relative of ornamental hibiscus shrubs and lives in several habitats, usually at the edges, where there is a combination of sun, shade, and seasonal flooding.

Look for scarlet rosemallow from early May to summer. Get tickets to visit the Sanctuary.

Join Us on World Bee Day, May 20
Next week on Monday, we stay open until 8 p.m. to host our World Bee Day Event!

Starting at 3 p.m. we'll have presentations on native plants and honeybees, a native plant giveaway, honey tasting, and children’s activities, including a chance for kids to build their own beehive from cardboard.

The Cypress Café will be open with child-friendly menu options.

Volunteer Spotlight: Lucas Vincent
At Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, we rely on many volunteers to meet the goals of our mission. While our volunteers are typically 18 years or older, this year, we were lucky to meet Lucas Vincent, who demonstrated clear dedication and commitment. Vincent is a Bright Futures scholarship holder who is getting ready to graduate from home school.

Save the Date for Summer Solstice and Wellness
Celebrate Summer Solstice in the Sanctuary with an evening of wellness and nature-based activities. Starting at 5 p.m. we’ll have a variety of activities on the boardwalk, including nature journaling (separate registration required), yoga, and sunset watching at 8:21 p.m.

Plus, we’ll have hammocks set up for relaxing along the way. All activities are included in regular admission.

Join Us for Wild Florida Adventure Camp
We still have some availability for students from June 3 to July 19. Children ages 6-12 will be immersed in different themes each week including Survival in the Swamp and Mysteries of Day and Night (which includes a night hike).

We're also looking for volunteers for this program. Prior teaching experience is not required but new volunteers should have an interest in learning about nature and a desire to make a positive impact on children.

Join our team of amazing volunteers and mold the next generation of conservation decision-makers and leaders in Florida! Learn more about volunteering.
