Meet the Mackenzie Fellows
A new expansion to the River Pathways program, the Mackenzie Fellowship, is the culmination of a generous donor's commitment to expanding leadership opportunities for youth in conservation. The Fellows teach high school students, do in-class outreach programs, collect bird survey and habitat assessment data, and help lead on-the-ground conservation projects.

The Fellowship just wrapped up its first season. Meet the first cohort.

Tice Supplee Kicks off the Western Rivers Bird Count
Tice Supplee took The Arizona Republic birding at the Agua Fria National Monument to promote the ongoing Western Rivers Bird Count. As Director of Bird Conservation, she has played a prominent role in creating community science opportunities for the public. These efforts strengthen the science and conservation principles on which Audubon is founded.

Want to get involved in science and conservation in other ways? Donate to the Tice Supplee Fund for Science and Conservation. Gifts to the Fund not only support efforts like the Western Rivers Bird Count, but a diverse range of projects from protecting Burrowing Owls to maintaining Arizona’s International Bird Areas.

Audubon's New Policy Manager: Haley Paul
Haley Paul recently joined the team as our new Policy Manager. In this role she’ll be working across the Audubon Arizona network to build relationships with key stakeholders and elected officials to promote sound water and natural resource policies. Haley most recently comes from the Town of Gilbert as its Water Resources Coordinator, where she led the water conservation team and its strategy, developed water resources policy, and conducted water use reporting and accounting. Haley studied at Arizona State University for a graduate degree in Sustainability and attended Washington State University for her undergraduate.

Haley is from Phoenix, Arizona and grew up running on the trails of South Mountain. On family walks, Haley demonstrates to her three-year-old daughter the differences between White-winged Doves and Mourning Doves. She’ll get it… eventually.

Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative work
Audubon is looking for volunteers able to help with filing, envelope-stuffing, data entry, and other administrative tasks.

Birding with eBird
Want to contribute to a community science initiative but can’t participate in Climate Watch or the Western Rivers Bird Count? Go birding at the Rio Salado Audubon Center! Experienced or intermediate birders are wanted to record and submit bird counts to eBird to increase what we know about the birds around our center and the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area.

If you are interested in either opportunity or want more information, email us.

The following listed events are located at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix unless otherwise noted.

Volunteer of the Month: Julie Coast
If you’ve ever attended Birds n’ Beer, you’ve probably met Julie. She is one of the event’s veteran bartenders, and will always pour your beer or wine with efficiency and a smile. Not only does Julie work behind the bar, but she also helps manage the food prep and tear-down, and offers her wealth of enthusiasm and knowledge to every attendee, proving herself to be as essential to Birds n’ Beer as the birds and beer. Thank you, Julie!
